A while back I saw a pic of Heidi Klum in an airport wearing the top cat tee and thought it was so adorable. I looked into the creators of this line and voila! Modern Lovers! Not that there are any boys that read this blog, but these t-shirts and totes would be a great gift this holiday season. I'm especially a fan of the floppy bowed girl, both the tee and tote.

American Apparel raglan, Ann Taylor Loft trousers, Urban Outfitters belt, H&M scarf, Superga sneakers, Banana Republic trench
So it's been about a hundred thousand bazillion years since my last outfit post but I've been feeling poo poo (a medical and scientific diagnosis) about everything clothing related lately. And today I feel a little less poo poo. And I've been wanting to debut the trench! It's about a year old and since I didn't blog a year ago, now's the perfect time for it to come out and play. The weather here is nuts. Thirty-five in the mornings some days and 70 in the afternoons. So I'm all for the light layers. And I have Lily Van der Woodsen to thank for the heather grey and khaki color combo, although she pulls it off far more flawlessly and polished. I'm so ready for Gossip Girl tonight!

The first thing I watched when I came home from Brazil was Gossip Girl. Usually I skim through all the ads but was struck by this Dior spot. Turns out it's directed by Sofia Coppola and is her first commercial. It's just adorable and I love the track which is Moi Je Joue by Brigitte Bardot. The only spot of it I could find on You Tube is someone taping it from the television, but it will do for now.

So I'm back from a two-week hiatus in Brazil. I had sooo much fun but now it's time to get serious. I've decided since being on a really tight budget that I'm going to give myself a Tim Gunn-style style detox. Right before vacation I did a major purge of my closet, like 9 garbage bags full! And now I'm ready to embrace the "10 essential items" law. I've realized that I had been spending way too much money on rubbish clothing and have very very few high-quality, classic things to show for it.
So here is the list:
1. Basic black dress
2. Trench coat (check)
3. Classic dress pants
4. White shirt
6. Cashmere sweater
8. Day dress
10. Sweatsuit alternative
And one trendy indulgent item, which will come last for me.
So obviously I can't afford to go and get all of this stuff at once. My goal is one or two things per month and see how that goes. Or maybe I'll get some Christmas money and can speed this experiment along. But you may be seeing me in a black blazer and jeans for like 3 weeks straight, so I probably won't be updating photos as often.
For starters I've found the jeans. I'm tossing my skinny jeans out, I'm so sick of them and I don't think they flatter my body one bit. I think the reason I got them was because I loved how they looked on girls with teeny tiny stick legs, but alas I have some meat on my bones. So, Tim's rule on jeans is that they are straight-legged and fall from the widest part of your hip. They should also be a dark wash because it's so versatile. I'm not a fan of pockets or logos or any sort of embroidery. And I don't have $500 bucks to spend on jeans so JCrew it is! I'll post pics soon.

Express tuxedo jacket, American Apparel deep-v tee, UO belt, Club Monaco jeans, Steve Madden oxfords, Ann Taylor Loft clutch
Last night Kim and I went to an event hosted by this fabulous blogger at this swanky Dallas venue called The Apartment. Best of all was the free martinis and delicious finger foods. And of course all sponsored by Chambourd. So yummy. We were so inspired by the party and the drunken tutorial that we decided to host a party for the premiere of Twilight!

I definitely wish I were a gutsier dresser. For some reason that is spelled wrong, or looks French. Hmmm, is that even a word? Anyway, I'll be in Rio in a few weeks and I've pulled some fantasy looks together from Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks for S/S '09. I thought maybe looking at these shows would inspire my packing, but wait, I don't own anything this cool. Ho hum.

Club Monaco blazer, Barney's CO-OP top, age old classic black mini from Rome, homemade socks cut from black tights, Steve Madden oxfords, NARS lipstick in Dolce Vita
'Tis the weekend of high school fall plays. Tonight I went to Booker T Washington High School (the Arts Magnet school downtown) and saw their performance of Scapino. These kids are amazing, and their costumes were fantastic! Every single character was clad in bright colors and mixed prints and topped off with a pair of all-stars. I can't wait for the mime shows in February!

I saved this clipping from WWWD from last spring and love the jewel-toned palette. That headband is from XXI and I got it ages ago thinking I could make it into a bracelet, but it hasn't worked yet.
Too Faced lipstick in Drop Dead Red (a perfect red/blue silky smooth shade)
We celebrated with a couple of steaks and tickets to Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. I definitely recommend, and if anyone has the soundtrack I want a copy! Mmmmmm meat.
