Back to school cool

I'm already excited for fall. Unfortunately fall in Texas doesn't begin until November. Here are a few inspirations. The first one is probably closest to what I'd actually like to try and incorporate. I'm in search of a great faux-leather black moto jacket. I will have a post soon devoted to my findings.

A while back I featured some collages from the Prada lookbook in a post. For me, that has been the most inspiring discovery and thing to share. I checked back on the site and downloaded this poster that is chock full  of simpler pieces, but still divine nonetheless. I'd like this blog to serve as more than a "these are the things I wear" and "these are the things I like" space. I'd like to expand it to include perhaps some of my own collages or pieces that are silly and quirky, but of course have to do with clothes and anything else I'm in the mood to create. So I'm writing it all down in this public space because I feel that I may actually do it if it's in writing. So stay tuned for something, not sure what exactly yet :)

A "Mad Men" woman...today

Until I can watch Mad Men tonight in HD, it's all I can think about. Last month's Elle magazine did a page on Retro Fit dressing, inspired by the series. But I was hard-pressed to find anything remotely in my price range. I think the cheapest thing on the page was a $400 sweater! I was going to do a collage/inspiration board, and the first place I looked was J Crew. It's totally classic, with a bit of an edge, and the color palette for fall is all jewel tones which are a throw back to that time.  I'm drooling.

All J Crew.

A lazy day

Pool hair, Urban Outfitters tee, invisible American Apparel black skirt, and you guessed it,  Nine West gladiators. (I think I need a new uniform)

Today has been quite a lazy day. But that is all about to change when we leave in a bit for an 11.30 soccer game tonight. I slept in, lounged at a friend's pool and then went to see Step Brothers which was amazing, in a horribly crude but awesome kind of way. I don't have much to offer in the way of clothes. I am wearing one of my favorite t-shirts, so I'll show that off. I also got bored and messed around with my web-cam. People have commented to me that I'm always chopping my pictures off at my eyes, so here is what I look like. No makeup, unbrushed hair, au naturale.

Mad Men

Advertising. Slick, tailored wardrobes. Illicit sex. Yum. Mad Men returns this Sunday night for a brand new season.

art + blogging

I stumbled upon an incredible illustrator, Danny Roberts, after seeing his portraits of a couple of my favorite blogging darlings. I wish I would have found him earlier when I was searching for someone to illustrate some lingerie posters, but this is how it always happens. I love his pretty, but kinda dark style. Enjoy!

Outside my comfort zone

Work has been pretty hectic lately, so I thought I would treat myself to this slutty little number below. I have to say that the next time you find yourself bored and in need of some fun, light-hearted reading, that you check out the reviews on this "dress" here. I'm still laughing at the one from Maria, dated June 25, and it's a wee bit too explicit to just copy and paste. Obviously I will be sporting this as a pencil skirt or tube top avec jeans. It is pretty hot all by itself though, maybe I can clean the house in it next time I'm home alone...with the shades up!

I'm also debating whether to keep these shoes from Forever 21. They are super rad, and super cheap. The heel is what caught my eye, and they are only 2.5 inches tall. I figure it's a neat way to dress up my uniform of gray tees and skinny jeans.

Here's one of my new favorite bloggers whose pulled them off beautifully.

Hot ladies in skimpy suits....you know, for art

So there is an exciting exhibition going on at the Met now, and I thought it would be a perfect time to showcase it since The Dark Knight has just opened, not to mention The Watchmen is coming out soon. Most generally speaking, the exhibit details how comic books and super heroes have influenced and shaped fashion. Some pieces shown are a little more ready-to-wear than others. And since lately I've been stuck in Lily of France lingerie world, I've chosen to focus on the Batman/Catwoman dominatrix characters that I can so closely relate with (wink* wink*). I am also looking forward to seeing The Watchmen and meeting this woman in the, excuse me for saying, but fierce get-up. Maybe this should  be my next sewing project.

Today my friends and I went out for brunch at Vickery Park (great eggs benedict) and then on over to the Magnolia for Mamma Mia. And oh my, was it a rompin' good time. People weren't quite dancing in the aisles as the review had promised, but there was a lot of clapping and singing along. Oh and it is hot today, I mean really hot. It's been around 100 all week, so it's all about the layers.

Hidden art in Dallas lunchtime series begins

Auditorium of the Scottish Rite Cathedral, downtown

I really should bring my real camera next time, and not wear the clicking clacking sandals when sneaking around the tour guide lady.

Some jewels that have caught my eye

Real quick, here's what I wore today. Then it's off to bed! I finally scored a pair of soccer shoes that fit, and that I really like, so I'm breaking them in today. By the way, I scored a goal in our first game! Astonishing, I know.

Lily of France

Art Director: moi! Copywriter: Bennett Holloway

Here is our latest breaking campaign for Lily of France lingerie that's out in the mags right now. They are inspired by vintage French posters circa 1900-1920s.
