So I'm back from a two-week hiatus in Brazil. I had sooo much fun but now it's time to get serious. I've decided since being on a really tight budget that I'm going to give myself a Tim Gunn-style style detox. Right before vacation I did a major purge of my closet, like 9 garbage bags full! And now I'm ready to embrace the "10 essential items" law. I've realized that I had been spending way too much money on rubbish clothing and have very very few high-quality, classic things to show for it.
So here is the list:
1. Basic black dress
2. Trench coat (check)
3. Classic dress pants
4. White shirt
6. Cashmere sweater
8. Day dress
10. Sweatsuit alternative
And one trendy indulgent item, which will come last for me.
So obviously I can't afford to go and get all of this stuff at once. My goal is one or two things per month and see how that goes. Or maybe I'll get some Christmas money and can speed this experiment along. But you may be seeing me in a black blazer and jeans for like 3 weeks straight, so I probably won't be updating photos as often.
For starters I've found the jeans. I'm tossing my skinny jeans out, I'm so sick of them and I don't think they flatter my body one bit. I think the reason I got them was because I loved how they looked on girls with teeny tiny stick legs, but alas I have some meat on my bones. So, Tim's rule on jeans is that they are straight-legged and fall from the widest part of your hip. They should also be a dark wash because it's so versatile. I'm not a fan of pockets or logos or any sort of embroidery. And I don't have $500 bucks to spend on jeans so JCrew it is! I'll post pics soon.
